# Design trials for model 2 These are **proposed controlled trials**, not claims of observed survival. Enter allele values through CRISPR or construct a complete model-2 DNA file from the family's defaults and validate it in the manual. All omitted alleles retain the family's default. Each trial needs an untouched control dish and repeat runs because encounter and mutation outcomes vary. Start through the app's safe New Dish/scenario workflow; none of these recipes changes an existing dish automatically. | Trial | Family and allele changes | Prerequisites / condition | Cost and control | Observe / fail condition | |---|---|---|---|---| | Adhesive algae colony | `flagellar-alga`: `adhesion=0.8`, `bodySize=1` | Several mature algae at nearby XYZ positions; minerals and light | Adhesion raises upkeep by `0.00004 × 0.8` energy per ms before pace; compare `adhesion=0` | Actual contact bonds, breakage and open gaps; failure if no bonds form or colony starves | | Size selective refuge | `ciliate-grazer`: `bodySize=0.7`; `openwater-hunter`: `bodySize=1.5`; adhesive algae as above | Actual connected gap in one Z slice; place eligible prey inside and hunter outside | Larger body needs more structural mass and pays more upkeep; compare open gap and different depth | Collision clearance and feeding-path obstruction, not a refuge immunity tag; fail if hunter finds a valid depth route or gap widens | | Reserve algae in cycle | `flagellar-alga`: `storageInvestment=0.8`, `reserveAllocation=0.5`, `mobilization=0.5` | Light cycle on, sufficient mineral during light, repeated dark interval | Capacity `80 × 0.8 = 64` energy; charge 80% efficient and recovery 85%; compare zero reserve genes | Reserve fills then drains while usable energy and mass remain finite; fail if repeated dark periods exhaust stores | | Economical predator | `raptorial-ciliate`: `propulsion=0.35`, `metabolicPace=0.8` | Eligible small ciliates; separate sparse and abundant prey dishes | Less active cost and thrust; compare default `propulsion=0.6`, `metabolicPace=1` | Captures, vacuole fill, energy and lifetime; fail if slow approach prevents enough meals | | Opposite gamete algae | Two `flagellar-alga` genotypes: both `fusionCapacity=0.8`, `crossAffinity=0.8`; `matingType=0` and `1` | Fusion/propagules toggle on; parents age ≥30 s, enough body and fuel, particle cap free; actual XYZ encounter | Each release spends `0.20` body mass and `10` fuel; compare both type 0 | Two viable gametes, opposite-type physical fusion and zygote development; fail if no encounter or insufficient mass/energy | | Asexual decomposer spores | `amoeboid-prototype`: `sporeInvestment=0.8` | Fusion/propagules toggle on, mature parent, floor organics, space and cap; suitable floor for germination | Each release spends `0.25` body mass and `12` fuel; compare `sporeInvestment=0` and unsuitable floor | Viable spores drift then germinate as crawler offspring; fail if viability expires or floor/support slot is unavailable | | Low-light pulse and receptor | `flagellar-alga`: `emissionCapacity=0.8`, `emissionPower=0.5`, `photoGlowThreshold=0.2`; compatible consumer with `directionalSense=0.8` | Biological light signals enabled; ambient sensing and low local lamp light where required | Pulse emitter pays usable energy; compare receptor `directionalSense=0` and emitter `emissionCapacity=0` | Light meter records emission/reception. Any movement response must be checked in its controller; receipt alone is no evidence of cooperation or attraction | The physical refuge trial applies only because `physical.js` uses XYZ ellipsoid bodies, swept contact and a feeding obstruction check. Cilia and drawn glow are not walls. The spore trial uses the crawler chassis; a `sporeInvestment` allele in another prototype does not make that chassis a working spore producer. Chemical gradients and light readings are local samples, and neither gives a cell an observer map. For exact current gates use the selected cell's reproduction and sensory diagnostics.
